Del Norte Hosts Justice Phoenix for Unity Seats Friday Night Lights

Anne Robinson | Rio Grande County Sheriff's Office | Sep 2, 2026

Unity Seats Friday Night Lights will bring football and fellowship together Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, as Del Norte hosts the Justice Phoenix team. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Del Norte High School, 950 French St., Del Norte, Colorado. Along with supporting local student-athletes, the event will give neighbors from across the community a welcoming place to stand together in patriotism and remembrance.

The Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office will join other first responders, military veterans, community members and local government representatives for the US United Unity Seats experience. The program pairs law enforcement leaders with residents who may hold opposing viewpoints, purchases tickets, and seats them together at a sporting event. Sharing the excitement of a game creates common ground, opening the door to conversation and connection among people who might not otherwise spend time together.

Del Norte School has provided a limited number of seats for special guests from many walks of life. By watching the Tigers and Justice Phoenix compete side by side, participants can reconnect with their neighbors, bridge differences and show young athletes that their community stands behind them. The gathering reflects the sheriff’s office’s commitment to strengthening relationships through personal interaction and shared experiences.

Anne Robinson
We are members of the community we serve and are committed to providing professional public safety services. We truly care about the job we do and appreciate the support of our community. Through these events we are able to strengthen our relationships, interact with people outside of calls for service, support our young athletes and our future community leaders.

Friday Night Lights will also recognize first responders, military veterans and those currently serving. Special announcements during the game will highlight their service, while a moment of silence will honor the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and remember those who lost their lives. The tribute will provide a solemn point of unity within an afternoon centered on community pride and support.

As the Del Norte take the field against Justice Phoenix, the game will serve as the backdrop for a broader goal: helping people see one another as neighbors rather than adversaries. Through remembrance, respectful connection and support for young athletes, Unity Seats Friday Night Lights will demonstrate the strength found when a community chooses to sit together.
