Unity Seats Brings Neighbors Together as County Line Coyotes Host Mancos
DEL NORTE, Colo. - The County Line Coyotes hosted the Mancos Blue Jays on Friday, September 25th, at Sargent School District RE-33J, with an upbeat crowd supporting the home team throughout a 45-0 loss. The US United Unity Seats experience brought law enforcement employees and community members together to share the game, conversation and a sense of belonging that extended beyond the scoreboard.
Family members, friends and supporters of the high school athletes filled out the gathering. Special guests included the mayor of Monte Vista, a Rio Grande County commissioner, Rio Grande County Sheriff's Office employees, Monte Vista EMS and a combined military veteran color guard. Unity Seats purchases tickets and seats law enforcement leaders alongside community members with opposing viewpoints, inviting them to experience sports as neighbors rather than adversaries.
Conversation among attendees ranged from local and national politics to the potato harvest and the athletes on the field. Friends and neighbors caught up while sharing their support for the Coyotes. The congenial atmosphere reflected the program's bridge-building purpose: Differences could be part of the conversation without becoming barriers to enjoying the evening together.
The team itself offered another example of coming together. Formed for the 2026 season, the Coyotes unite the Sargent High School Farmers and the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds in a co-op football program. Bringing athletes and families from both schools onto the same side created space for new friendships and a shared community. Support for first responders and a sobering remembrance of 9/11 also stood out, reflecting residents' patriotism and appreciation for service.
For the Sheriff's Office and its neighbors, the evening paired football with recognition of the sacrifices made by military personnel and first responders. Participants expressed appreciation for their country while sharing a reminder that community does not require agreement on every issue. People with diverse backgrounds and opinions came together to support the athletes and recognize their shared commitment to supporting one another in times of crisis.
