Foster’s three touchdowns power Shrine to 38-7 win over Cardinal Mooney

Shrine Catholic High School defeated Cardinal Mooney 38-7 on Saturday, Oct. 3, in East China, with Jaycee Foster’s two first-quarter touchdown runs setting the Knights on course for the road victory. Foster finished with 203 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries.
Foster opened the scoring with a 27-yard run, then added a 49-yard touchdown to help Shrine build a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Nathan Maffucci scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter before Foster reached the end zone again from 41 yards out. Grant Poulton converted each extra point and added a 29-yard field goal to send the Knights into halftime ahead 31-0.
The Knights extended the lead to 38-0 in the third quarter when Maffucci connected with Owen Wisniewski for a 45-yard touchdown. Poulton added the fifth of five successful extra-point attempts. Maffucci completed 8 of 11 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown without an interception.
Josh Zboril led Shrine’s receivers with six catches for 78 yards and contributed a 32-yard punt return. The Knights totaled 407 yards on 40 offensive plays, averaging 10.2 yards per play. Their ground attack produced 270 yards on 28 attempts, with Foster averaging 18.5 yards per carry.
Shrine held Cardinal Mooney scoreless through three quarters before an 83-yard touchdown run in the fourth accounted for the home team’s only points. Cardinal Mooney finished with 193 total yards, including 139 rushing and 54 passing, and seven first downs compared with the Knights’ 13.
Ashton Firek led Shrine’s defense with 10 tackles, including two for loss. Henry Novack and Luke Robinson each intercepted a pass, and the Knights finished with five tackles for loss. Shrine committed no turnovers while taking the ball away twice.
