Shrine pulls away from Lutheran NW for 38-14 road victory

Shrine broke open a one-score game with two touchdowns in the third quarter, including a 60-yard run by Jaycee Foster, and defeated Lutheran NW 38-14 on the road Sept. 3. The Knights carried a 14-7 lead into halftime before outscoring Lutheran NW 24-7 over the final two quarters.
Nathan Maffucci opened the scoring with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Owen Wisniewski in the first quarter. The quarterback added a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to extend Shrine’s lead to 14-0. Lutheran NW answered with a 20-yard touchdown pass before halftime, cutting the margin to seven.
The Knights regained control after the break. Maffucci connected with Wisniewski for a 26-yard touchdown, their second scoring combination of the game, to make it 20-7. Foster then broke loose for a 60-yard touchdown run, giving Shrine a 26-7 advantage entering the fourth quarter.
Foster continued the decisive rushing performance with touchdown runs of 40 and 65 yards in the fourth quarter. Foster finished with 238 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries, averaging 13.2 yards per attempt. Lutheran NW closed the scoring with a 31-yard touchdown pass after Shrine had built a 38-7 lead.
Shrine produced 463 total yards on only 43 plays, an average of 10.8 yards per snap. The Knights rushed for 267 yards and converted six of eight third downs while committing no turnovers. Maffucci completed 12 of 17 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Wisniewski caught four passes for 93 yards and two scores, while Josh Zboril added seven receptions for 94 yards.
The Shrine defense limited Lutheran NW to 187 total yards, including 53 rushing yards on 26 attempts, and forced one turnover. Ashton Firek led the Knights with 10 solo tackles and recovered a fumble. Grant Poulton recorded a sack, while Shrine defended nine passes and held Lutheran NW to six first downs.
