Shrine rolls past Western International 58-6 behind 51-point first half

Shrine turned an explosive first half into a 58-6 victory over Western International on Aug. 28 at Shrine. The Knights scored 26 points in the first quarter and 25 in the second, building a 51-0 halftime lead that decided the game.
Jaycee Foster powered the offensive surge with four touchdowns. Foster rushed five times for 94 yards and three scores, including runs of 16 and 32 yards, and caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Maffucci. The 24-point performance helped Shrine average 13.1 yards per play.
The Knights also produced game-changing plays through the air and on special teams. Maffucci completed 3 of 5 passes for 59 yards and two touchdowns without an interception, including a 31-yard scoring connection with Luke Robinson. Josh Zboril returned both Western International punts for touchdowns, covering 22 and 42 yards for 64 total return yards.
Leo Arce added an 8-yard touchdown run and finished with 47 yards on five carries. Luke Starrak scored Shrine’s final touchdown on a 15-yard run in the third quarter, extending the lead to 58-0. The Knights finished with 163 rushing yards and 222 total yards on only 17 offensive plays while committing no turnovers.
Shrine’s defense kept Western International from establishing its running game, holding the visitors to minus-9 rushing yards on 23 attempts. Ashton Firek led the Knights with six tackles, while Keegan Nichols recorded two tackles for loss. Owen Wisniewski and Liam Glynn each intercepted a pass, and Shrine also recovered two fumbles.
Western International finished with 73 total yards and scored its only points on an 82-yard touchdown completion in the fourth quarter. The Knights allowed just one first down, forced three turnovers and limited Western International to 2.4 yards per play to complete the season-opening win.
