Shrine blanks Liggett 32-0 behind Foster’s three touchdowns

Shrine turned an early safety into a commanding first half and shut out Liggett 32-0 on Sept. 12 at Liggett Field. Grant Poulton opened the scoring by recording a safety, and Jaycee Foster followed with a 14-yard touchdown run as the Knights built a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.
The decisive strike came in the second quarter, when Nathan Maffucci connected with Foster for a 67-yard touchdown. Foster later scored from 2 yards out, sending Shrine into halftime with a 24-0 advantage. Foster accounted for 22 points, adding two two-point runs to three touchdowns during a 221-yard performance from scrimmage.
Foster carried 19 times for 154 yards, an average of 8.1 yards per attempt, and added the 67-yard touchdown reception. Maffucci completed 7 of 15 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown without an interception. The quarterback also rushed seven times for 31 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that completed the scoring. Luke Starrak caught the ensuing two-point conversion.
Shrine’s defense controlled the other side of the ball, holding Liggett to 144 total yards and forcing three turnovers. Ashton Firek led the Knights with 13 tackles, including 12 solo stops and one tackle for loss. Josh Zboril and Luke Robinson each intercepted a pass, while Zboril also broke up seven passes. Owen Wisniewski contributed eight tackles, six of them solo.
The Knights outgained Liggett 354-144 and held a 234-63 advantage on the ground. Shrine averaged 8 yards per play, compared with Liggett’s 3.1, and allowed only 81 passing yards. Robinson added 50 rushing yards on two carries, while Zboril led Shrine with three catches for 40 yards. The Knights also kept Liggett off the scoreboard through a scoreless third quarter before Maffucci’s fourth-quarter touchdown sealed the 32-point victory.
