Rattlers Find Their Rhythm, Sweep Wallowa in Three Sets

WALLOWA, Ore. - Wheeler County overcame a slow start and took command as the match progressed, sweeping Wallowa 25-19, 25-17, 25-11 on Friday. The Rattlers found their rhythm during the opening set, then steadily widened the margin to complete the three-set victory.
The opening set presented the Rattlers with their toughest test of the match. Wheeler County needed time to settle into its offense, but improved execution helped the team move in front and close out a 25-19 win. That turnaround established the pattern for the rest of the evening, with the Rattlers becoming more comfortable in their rotations and more effective at finishing points.
Traycen Earnest supplied strong hitting from both sides of the floor, giving Wheeler County an attacking option from multiple positions. Her work at the net helped the Rattlers maintain pressure through the middle stages of the match as they followed the opening-set victory with a 25-17 decision in the second.
Rylee Giffith strengthened Wheeler County’s effort from the service line, helping the Rattlers control stretches of play and limit Wallowa’s opportunities to establish a consistent attack. Marin Temple anchored the back row with strong libero play, providing the defensive work and ball control Wheeler County needed to transition into its offense.
The Rattlers delivered their most decisive performance in the third set. With their serving, defense and hitting working together, they held Wallowa to 11 points and finished the sweep with a 25-11 victory. Wheeler County’s progression from a six-point first-set margin to eight points in the second and 14 in the third reflected how firmly the team took control after its slow opening.
Wheeler County will return to the road Thursday, Sept. 17, for a 5 p.m. PDT match at Condon.
