Rattlers Sweep Condon Behind Late Second-Set Stand
MITCHELL, Ore. - The Rattlers swept Condon in three sets Friday, winning 25-18, 27-25, 25-16 behind steady serving and a pivotal defensive play late in the second set. The straight-set victory gave the Rattlers control of the match after they pulled away late in the opener, survived the tightest stretch of the afternoon and then closed decisively.
Condon, the Blue Devils, stayed within reach during much of the first set before the Rattlers created separation down the stretch. Consistent trips to the service line helped Wheeler County apply pressure, while the defense extended rallies and limited Condon's chances to build momentum. The late surge produced a 25-18 win and gave the Rattlers an early advantage.
The second set brought the match's defining sequence. Condon responded with a scrappy effort and pushed the Rattlers into a 25-25 tie. With the set in the balance, Wheeler County made an outstanding defensive stop to win the rally and take control of the serve. The Rattlers then secured the final point for a 27-25 victory, escaping Condon's challenge and taking a two-set lead.
Lindzey Neasham, Molly McMurray and Nola Mcreer supplied consistent serving throughout the match. Their work helped the Rattlers settle into rotations, keep Condon under pressure and regain control after the difficult second set. Wheeler County carried that steadiness into the third, establishing command and preventing the Blue Devils from forcing another extended finish.
The Rattlers completed the sweep with a 25-16 third-set victory, their largest margin of the match. After navigating the pressure of the second set, they delivered a composed closing set built on serving and defense. Wheeler County will next travel to face Dufur at 5 p.m. PDT Thursday, Oct. 1.
