Strasburg Falls One Stroke Short Despite Gavin Weaver's 38

MIDVALE, Ohio - Strasburg produced the match's two lowest individual scores but finished one stroke short Wednesday, falling 172-173 in its varsity boys golf match against East Canton. Gavin Weaver led the Tigers with a 38, while Jeffery Secrest followed with a 42.

The Aug. 26 match was played in partly cloudy conditions with a temperature of 75 degrees and wind at 5 mph. With only one shot separating the team totals, each of the Tigers' four counting rounds played a role in the final result. East Canton posted the winning total of 172, and Strasburg finished at 173.

Gavin Weaver set the pace with the low round of the match. His 38 gave Strasburg a strong score at the top of its card and placed him four shots ahead of teammate Jeffery Secrest. Culbertson's 42 provided the Tigers with another low number and kept the team within range of the opposition.

Nick Nick added a 45, the Tigers' third counting score. Lathan Culbertson completed Strasburg's team total with a 48. The four rounds of 38, 42, 45 and 48 combined for the Tigers' 173, leaving them one shot behind the winning mark.

Henry Hershberger rounded out the Strasburg lineup with a 54. Although that score did not count toward the four-player team total, the Tigers received contributions across the lineup and placed two golfers at 42 or better. The narrow finish was decided by the smallest possible team margin, with Gavin Weaver's 38 standing as Strasburg's top individual performance.
