Strasburg Tops Sandy Valley 170-183 Behind Gavin Weaver’s 37

10566 Wilkshire Blvd NE, Bolivar, OH 44612 - Gavin Weaver earned medalist honors with a 37, leading the Strasburg Tigers to a 170-183 victory over Sandy Valley on Thursday, Aug. 27. Weaver posted the lowest round by six strokes as Strasburg used two scores in the 30s and low 40s, along with a deep group at 46, to secure the 13-stroke win.
Jeffery Secrest added a 41 for the Tigers, giving Strasburg the two best individual scores of the match. Weaver and Secrest combined for a 78, nine strokes better than Sandy Valley’s top pairing of Hudson Woods and Trey Nicholson. Woods paced the Cardinals with a 43, while Nicholson followed closely with a 44.
Strasburg’s depth completed the winning team total. Nick Cleveland, Lathan Culbertson and Henry Hershberger each shot 46, giving the Tigers three interchangeable scores behind their top two finishers. With two of those 46s included, Strasburg’s four counting rounds were 37, 41, 46 and 46. Emmett Fierbaugh completed the Tigers’ lineup with a 61.
Sandy Valley received a 46 from Scotty Hanood, matching Strasburg’s third-lowest score, but the Cardinals could not keep pace with Weaver and Secrest at the top of the card. Michael Deal provided Sandy Valley’s fourth counting round with a 50. Malachi Baylor shot 55, and Mason Prosperi finished with a 58.
The match began at noon in partly cloudy conditions with a temperature of 76 degrees and winds at 5 mph. Strasburg’s advantage was built through consistency across its scoring lineup, as each of its four counting rounds came in at 46 or better. That balance allowed the Tigers to finish comfortably ahead of Sandy Valley’s counting scores of 43, 44, 46 and 50.
