Avon Eagles Dominate Season Opener in Varsity Softball
The Avon High School Eagles soared to a 11-1 victory over the Brookside Cardinals in the varsity softball team's highly anticipated Season Opening game on March 26. With brooding clouds and a persistently devious wind, the weather at the Avon home field was resolute, but so were the players. Support from the stands reached a crescendo as the Eagles kicked off their season with a win, now boasting a 1-0 record. Leading the offensive charge, Amelia Holbrook, Lauren Fischer, Grace Mangan, and Natale Thomas each scored 2 runs, contributing to the Eagles' resounding performance. Notably, Leah Stanford and Natale Thomas were instrumental in the team's win, racking up 2 hits. Top performances from the Varsity team in its opening game are setting the stage for an exciting season ahead. The Eagles are already focused on maintaining the winning momentum for their next home game, where they will face off against the Vermilion team on March 27.
