Avon Eagles Take Victory in First Round of OHSAA State Playoffs Against Nordonia

In an intense showdown that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Avon Eagles secured a triumphant victory against the Nordonia Lady Knights in the first round of the OHSAA State Playoffs. The game was held at Avon High School on February 19, ended with the Eagles advancing to the next round by a score 53-46. The Eagles, led by sophomore sensation Alaina Pagan who scored 26 points, displayed a remarkable performance throughout the game. Additional standout players were Audrey Lammers and Abigail Owens, who contributed 10 and 9 points respectively. The first half concluded with the Eagles leading 27-20, setting the stage for a nail-biting second half. Coach Castrilla highlighted the team's resilience, especially in the fourth quarter. "We have been in tight games all season, and this was no exception. Our ability to turn the game around in the late stages is what makes us a strong fourth quarter team," said Castrilla. He also expressed excitement about the potential of competing for their first district title since 1991. Sophomore Alaina Pagan shared her thoughts on the game, emphasizing the importance of her teammates, like Ava Mitchell and Lammers, in achieving this victory. With this win, the Avon Eagles improve their season record to 17-6. They are now preparing to face the Hudson Explorers at Medina High on February 22, as they continue their journey in the OHSAA State Playoffs. The Eagles community is buzzing with anticipation as they rally behind their team for what promises to be an exhilarating continuation of their strong season and playoff campaign.
