User | Avon High School | Apr 3, 2024

The Avon Eagles, secured a 9-4 victory in the Southwestern Conference (SWC) opener against the Elyria Pioneers on Thursday. The varsity players demonstrated both their batting and pitching skills on home turf in Avon under difficult weather conditions characterized by typical Cleveland lousy spring break weather. Leading the run-scoring charge was Lauren Fischer, who crossed the plate three times, with Grace Mangan close behind at two runs. Mangan also stood out with two RBIs, adding to her offensive contributions. Although no home runs were recorded, the Eagles impressively stacked up 3 hits each for Fischer, Mangan, and Sarah Perry. Fischer's all-round performance featured crucial runs for the team. In the circle, Jada Smith dominated the opposition, putting on a pitching clinic with 15 strikeouts. Looking ahead, the Eagles continue their away stretch as they face the North Ridgeville Rangers on April 4. The team, with a current record of 4-0, will strive to build on their momentum in a bid to continue their winning ways.
