Avon girls score dominant victory over Amherst
Depth and defense were the words of the day Saturday when Avon’s girls basketball team won its second consecutive game, taking down visiting Amherst, 54-33, in Southwestern Conference action. The Eagles are now 5-8 overall and 4-3 in the SWC.
Twelve different players scored for Avon, led by Chloe Collins with 11. The freshman was backed by Abby Owens with eight points, Sophia Sharp with seven and Audrey Lammers with six. While the offense was humming, the Eagles also dominated the game with their defense, forcing turnover after turnover.
Avon opened the game by scoring the first 10 points, and in the second quarter the Eagles put together a 17-0 run that resulted in a 35-8 halftime score. The biggest lead of the game was 30 points, as Avon held a 41-11 lead in the third quarter.
The Eagles play at Lakewood Monday before returning to SWC play at archrival Avon Lake on Wednesday.
