Avon High School Eagles Clinch 1st Place at Gymnastics Competition
In an impressive display of skill and determination, the Avon High School Eagles gymnastics team topped the charts at their recent competition against the formidable TenPoint0 consortium of schools, including North Ridgeville, Avon Lake, Firelands, Elyria, Amherst, Elyria Catholic, Midview, and Keystone. The event was held on January 10, 2025, where the Eagles soared to a first-place finish with an overall team score of 121.45.
Despite North Ridgeville winning the event, the Eagles' collective performance ensured they clinched the top spot in terms of team points. Noteworthy performances included Lilah Cain, who debuted her first vault of the season, and Erin Till who made her season debut on the floor. Adding to the high points, Ryan Garlitz achieved personal records on the beam, floor, and in the all-around competition.
The meet wasn't without its hurdles, as Coach Veronika highlighted the team's ability to overcome the absence of several key members. "I am impressed with the team's consistent performance and stepping out of their comfort zones competing in events they haven't competed yet this season. They definitely stepped it up this meet knowing each score would count due to being down several teammates," she commented.
Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to compete at Lakewood High School on January 14, 2025, at Horace Mann Elementary School. The team's spirit and performance are highly anticipated as they prepare for their next challenge.
