The Avon High School Eagles secured a solid 10-2 win against the Ryle Raiders(Ky) on April 6. The gameup, part of a non-conference regular season, was hosted at Upper Arlington High School, marking a positive point for the Eagles' baseball season. With mild and sunny weather setting the scene, Avon's varsity baseball squad exhibited a rich display of skill. They boasted key moments that greatly contributed to the final outcome, the highlight being a pivotal inning that saw the Eagles surge ahead with an 8-run spree, culminating in a 3-run home run by Ian Cain. Ryan Sudbrook was also a difference-maker, delivering a crucial 2-RBI double and his impact was equally potent, notching 3 RBIs. Additionally, Brody Papay's pitching was a key element of Avon's success as he started the game with 2 hitless innings, striking out 4 Ryle Raiders. Tommy Urbancic stepped into relief after Luke Holtzman got into some trouble, pitching 2.2 innings with 2 strikeouts and no earned runs. The overall effort showcased the depth of the Eagles team as Colten Fitch went 3 for 4 on the day, and Kyle Crell effectively stole a base. The scoring was spread widely across the Avon lineup, with Colten Fitch, Kyle Crell, Ryan Sudbrook, Ian Cain, Ethan Eibel, Andy Falasco, Cole Ropelewski, and Owen Melzer all contributing runs throughout the game. Cain's homerun wasn't just a personal highlight; it was a symbolic moment of the team's success on the day.
