Avon High School Eagles Secure 2nd Place in Gymnastics Face-off at Horace Mann
In an intense gymnastics competition held at Horace Mann Elementary, the Avon High School Eagles showcased remarkable skill and resilience, finishing in 2nd place with an overall team score of 121.3. The meet, which featured competitors from Lakewood High School, Holy Name, Riverside, Mentor, Perry and Madison saw Riverside ultimately taking the winning spot. Standout performances were aplenty for the Eagles. Emily Quayle excelled, claiming 2nd place on vault with a score of 7.95, and also taking 3rd place on beam with an 8.25. Ryan Garlitz wasn't far behind, securing 3rd place on vault with a 7.9, and impressing with a 2nd place finish on the floor with an 8.25. Erin Till added to the Eagles' success with a 3rd place on bars scoring a 7.3. Overcoming significant challenges with only five out of nine athletes available, the team demonstrated exceptional focus and determination. Coach Liz expressed immense pride in the team, stating, "Our athletes knew every score counted and when the pressure was on they stayed calm and let their personalities shine." As they prepare for their next event, the High School Gymnastics Challenge on January 24, 2025, at the Cleveland Public Auditorium, the Eagles look forward to competing against a wide array of schools, including Aurora and North Ridgeville, with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.
