Brandon Miller | Avon High School | Jan 29, 2025

In a thrilling non-conference basketball game at Avon High School on Tuesday Night, the Avon Eagles secured a decisive 63-56 victory over the Gilmour Academy Lancers on January 28, 2025. The win reflects the Eagles' intense preparation and strategic prowess, elevating their season record to 8-7. The game started strongly for the Eagles, who led 32-18 at halftime, showcasing their dominance early in the game. The Lancers tried to make a second half comeback but the deficit was just to much as the Eagles beat a very tough Lancer team by a score of 63-56. Andy Falasco, one of Avon's standout players, scored a team-high 17 points. His performance, along with significant contributions from Ali Jaber, who added 16 points, and Joey Ziegler, with 11 points, were pivotal in the Eagles' success. Falasco emphasized the team's vigorous preparations, which were crucial against a tough opponent like the Gilmour Academy Lancers. Reflecting on his own role, when asked if he ever passes up a shot Falasco remarked, "Absolutely not because he sees his strengths both as a defender and a shooter, ready to seize opportunities to score”. Further commending on his teammates, Falasco highlighted the aggressive plays by Nolan Good and the importance and physicality in rebounding by Sam Toniolo, which were essential for overtaking the Lancers and initiating successful transitions. "The importance of aggressiveness tonight from Good, who is never afraid of contact, and Sam Toniolo battling down low to secure important boards, was one of the keys to our victory," Falasco elaborated. Looking ahead, the Eagles will host the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs on January 31, in a very important Southwestern Conference Clash as they aim to continue their winning momentum on their home court. As the team prepares for this next challenge, the spirit and strategy displayed against the Lancers will undoubtedly serve as a strong foundation.
