The much-anticipated SWC regular season kickoff, held at the Ely Stadium & Multi-Sports Complex, saw the Avon Eagles take an early lead and maintain a steady momentum throughout the game. Taking the field under sunny and windy conditions, the Avon Eagles, led by Brody Papay as the starting pitcher, showcased their talent. Papay's solid performance, which included 13 strikeouts, set the tone for the team's success. He limited the Elyria Pioneers to 0 earned runs over 6 innings. Additionally, standout plays by the Avon offense determined the game. The Eagles' runs were brought in by Ryan Sudbrook, Ian Cain, Baron Eberly, and Cole Ropelewski, who crossed the plate twice. Sykora and Ropelewski contributed stolen bases to the Eagles' tally, while Papay demonstrated his defensive prowess by executing a pickoff. Looking forward, the Avon Eagles, under the leadership of Coach Pat Scholla, are focused on building their success after this initial victory. "There's a lot of positive things from today. But it's just Game 1, so our job is to get back to the drawing board tomorrow and reset," Scholla said. The Avon Eagles' current record stands at 1-0. The team will be gearing up to face the Kenston Bombers at Mercy Health Stadium on March 28.
