Aarav Kishorepuria and Blake Netschke didn’t drop a game in their two doubles matches Wednesday as the Division I boys tennis tournament got started at Springside Athletic Club in Akron.
After playing the entire season at first and second singles, respectively, Kishorepuria and Netschke combined to play doubles in the postseason. Seeded second at Springside, they defeated Dante Arena and EJ Labadia of North Royalton in the first round and Luke Oliver and Jack Johnson of Wadsworth in the second, both by scores of 6-0, 6-0. The pair will face Bryce Duffley and Peyton Duffley of Twinsburg Friday in a quarterfinal match.
Also still alive in the doubles bracket for Avon is the unseeded team of Caleb Free and Grant Nagy. The duo defeated Rasis Samal and Nathan Bishop of Tallmadge in the first round, 6-0, 6-2, and was equally as dominant in the second round, taking down Aiden Yaworski and Stefan Murea of Medina, 6-1, 6-3. They will face the third-seeded team of Simon Youssef and Jongeun Choi of Brecksville on Friday.
If both Avon teams win their quarterfinal matches, they will face each other in a semifinal.
Avon’s second doubles team of Bidwat Mishra and Jaxen Springer lost a heartbreaker in their second-round match against Aurora’s Kade Morgenroth and Blake Oden. The Aurora duo won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6. Mishra and Springer battled back to take the second set, 6-2, but lost the matchbreaker, 12-10.
Ashton Schwanger is the only Avon player to compete in singles, advancing to the quarterfinals with a pair of wins. He topped Adan Cefo of Nordonia, 6-2, 6-2, and then edged Raphi Botros of Hudson, 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. Schwanger, who is unseeded, will face fourth seed Arul Manuel of Brecksville in a quarterfinal on Friday.
