Despite not being near full strength because of spring break, the boys and girls track and field teams both placed in the top three in the high-powered Lexington Invitational Saturday at Lexington High School.

The boys finished with 80½ points, second only to host Lexington with 104. The girls team race was much tighter, with Upper Arlington taking honors with 94½ points, followed by Lexington with 86 and Avon with 81.

Each team had three first-place finishes, all in individual races. Ally Brediger led the girls with two firsts, winning the 100-meter dash in 12.30 seconds and the 200 in a season’s-best 25.12. The other winner for Avon’s girls was Kenzie Kiesel, who took the discus with a toss of 117 feet, 7 inches.

Jared Keressi was the lone winner on the track for Avon’s boys, taking the 800 run in a person record 1:57.57. The Eagles also got firsts out of Lance Dawson in the discus (160-3) and Tommy Smith in the pole vault (13-6).

Jayla Antrum was a big contributor for the girls, placing second in the 400 (58.22) and fourth in the 200 (26.50), and joining Brediger, Marisa Weller and Julianna Stein on the fourth-place 4x400 relay (4:03.73). In addition, the 4x800 relay team of Stein, Kaitlyn Reese, Olivia Pajak and Molly Suter was second in 9:45.51. The Eagles also fared well in the hurdles, with Mia Wirks taking fourth in the highs (16.74) and Weller taking fourth in the lows (49.59).

Avon’s boys also did well in the relays, with Sam Ulery, Jairel Fenton, Graham Rowlison and Bishop Weatherspoon taking second in the 4x200 with a time of 1:30.85. In the 4x100, Michael Colburn led off, followed by Ulery, Rowlison and Weatherspoon as the Eagles took second with a 43.26 clocking. Avon also took second in the pole vault with Ethan Tompkins at 13-0, and Jacob Abfall was third in the shot put at 54-3½.

The Eagles will compete in a dual meet at Berea-Midpark on Wednesday before traveling to Firelands Friday for the Lorain County Meet. The boys have won the county meet five consecutive years, and the girls have won four in a row.
