Boys, girls golf both qualify for their respective district tournaments
Avon’s boys and girls golf teams both placed fourth in their respective Division I sectional tournaments Monday to earn berths in next week’s district tournaments.
Playing at Grey Hawk Golf Club in Lagrange, the boys had to sweat out barely making the final qualifying spot by just a stroke over Amherst. Freshman James Beeler parred the ninth hole—his final hole—to clinch the district berth.
Medina won the tournament with a score of 323, followed by St. Edward at 325, Olmsted Falls at 327 and Avon at 335. The Eagles were led by senior Jack Hecei, a district individual qualifier last year, with a score of 81. He was backed by Ethan Olszowy (83), Zack Snyder (84), Beeler (87) and Sam Griffiths (89).
The district tournament is scheduled to be held October 5 at Pine Hills Golf Course in Hinckley.
Avon’s girls qualified for the district tournament for the second consecutive year. This year’s sectional tournament at Big Met Golf Course was dominated by Magnificat with a score of 291, followed by Brunswick at 316, Orange at 330 and Avon at 337.
Playing without a senior in the lineup, Avon was topped by freshman Wynter Delarm at 81. She was followed by sophomore Jenavieve Plantner (83), freshman Sedona Benedict (86), sophomore Jocelyn England (87) and junior Ella Sisto (106).
The district tournament is scheduled to be held October 6 at The Tanglewood Club in Chagrin Falls.
