Boys golfers earn SWC championship they narrowly missed last year

Joe Magill | Avon High School | Sep 18, 2026

Avon’s boys golf team just needed to finish in front of Olmsted Falls at the Southwestern Conference tournament Thursday in order to clinch the conference title that barely eluded them last year, and the Eagles did just that to earn their first conference crown since 2021.

With senior Jack Hecei earning medalist honors by three strokes with an even-par 72, Avon carded a 315 at Grey Hawk Golf Club, two strokes behind tournament winner Avon Lake. Olmsted Falls was third at 322. The SWC championship is determined by a formula that includes dual matches and three tournaments. The Eagles won the SWC preview, was second at the Midview Invitational and second in the SWC tournament.

Hecei, who had a very consistent round, hitting 16 of 18 greens in regulation, was backed by junior Sam Griffiths at 77, senior Ethan Olszowy at 82 and junior Emmitt Weaver at 84. Last year, Avon missed winning the conference title by just one stroke.

The Eagles will return to Grey Hawk on September 28 for the Division I sectional tournament.
