Avon’s boys golf team placed second among 16 teams in the Midview Invitational tournament Tuesday at Columbia Hills Country Club. The Eagles totaled 312 strokes, eight behind winner Olmsted Falls.

The event serves as the mid-season tournament for the Southwestern Conference and is part of the formula for winning the overall conference championship. All that’s left is to complete the dual matches and the conference tournament to be held Sept. 17 at Grey Hawk Golf Club. Avon won the SWC Preview about a month ago, and Olmsted Falls placed fifth.

Samuel Griffiths was the top finisher for the Eagles, carding a 76 after needing just 34 strokes on the back nine. He was followed by Jack Hecei (77), Ethan Olszowy (78), Cameron Ocepek (81), Zack Snyder (83) and James Beeler (84).

Team results: 1. Olmsted Falls 304; 2. Avon 312; 3. Amherst 319; 4. Keystone 320; 5. Strongsville 321; 5. Bay 321; 5. Westlake 321; 8. Avon Lake 327; 9. Berea-Midpark 328; 10. Buckeye 332; 11.
