Boys soccer ties Rocky River, 0-0, in powerhouse matchup
In a matchup of two of the top teams in Ohio, Avon’s boys soccer team was unable to find the nets Monday, playing visiting Rocky River to a scoreless tie in non-conference action. The Eagles are now 9-1-3 and have gone 10 consecutive matches without a loss, while the Pirates dropped to 12-0-1.
Avon’s stout defense, which has allowed just nine goals this season, was up to the task, posting its seventh shutout. Goalkeeper Owen Huron only had to make two saves, neither of which were very difficult. The Eagles also managed to shut down River’s standout forward Quentin Daily, who entered the match with 20 goals.
However, the offense was unable to score despite dominating possession. Avon had some excellent scoring chances, but each time Rocky River goalkeeper Alexander Wiggers was up to the task.
The Eagles return to Southwestern Conference play Wednesday when they host Elyria.
