Conley scores late to give Eagles a dramatic victory over Avon Lake

Will Conley scored the game-winner with 34 seconds remaining on the clock as Avon’s boys lacrosse team came from behind Tuesday to edge rival Avon Lake, 7-6.
The 5-2 Eagles took an early 3-1 lead on goals by Fin Jerdonek, Jude Theibert and Jackson Brokaw, but the Shoremen scored five consecutive goals to take a 6-3 lead with 3:14 to play in the third quarter. That’s when the Eagles stepped up big, holding Avon Lake scoreless for the final 15:14 while scoring four consecutive goals.
First, Evan Juergens made it 6-4 with 1:49 left in the third. That was followed by a long scoreless stretch before Theibert broke through with 4:25 to play to make it 6-5. Just over 2 minutes later, Theibert scored his third goal of the night off an assist from Juergens to tie the score at 6-6.
Conley scored his clinching goal from about 15 yards out, and then Avon goalie Lucas Deacon saved the dramatic comeback by blocking an Avon Lake shot with 8 seconds to play.
The Eagles will be in action again on Tuesday when they host Bay.
