Cross country teams compete at Cloverleaf Invitational

Avon’s boys and girls cross country teams both competed in the Todd Clark Invitational Saturday, a meet that was held at Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton and hosted by Cloverleaf High School.
The girls team, which entered the meet ranked third in the state in Division II in the latest coaches poll, rested its top runners, placing 16th in the 27-team field with 435 points.
The Eagles were led by Brooklyn Fagan, who finished in 62nd place with a time of 21 minutes, 25.0 seconds over the 5,000-meter course. She was followed to the finish line by Alyssa Bratton (71st in 21:40.8), Peyton Schwanger (91st in 22:09.8), Eloria Long (110th, in 22:29.6), Isabella Eddy (121st in 22:43.1), Julia Walsh (124th in 22:53.2) and Avery Dundr (132nd in 32:01.3).
Avon’s boys ran a few of their top runners while resting others. The Eagles finished 13th among 26 teams with 349 points. Nick Thompson was the top finisher for Avon (26th in 16:55.9), followed by Jared Keressi (52nd in 17:21.8), Matthew Lochbihler (58th in 17:29.3), Anthony Danicki (98th in 18:02.1), Jackson Bratton (131st in 18:16.7), Timothy Gardner (133rd in 18:17.1) and Alan Kline (147th in 18:29.2).
Both teams will be participating next Saturday in the Berlin Bear Dash at Olentangy Berlin. The meet gives the girls their first opportunity to run against Columbus Watterson, the defending state champion in Division II and the top-ranked team in the state.
