Eagles blank Wooster, 6-0, move on to district final
With six different players scoring goals, Avon’s girls soccer team quickly jumped on visiting Wooster and eventually rolled to a 6-0 victory Tuesday in a Division II district semifinal. Sophomore Sydney Thomas, the team’s leading scorer, opened the scoring just 2 minutes into the match, followed 5 minutes later by a goal from Olivia Sabo-Alexander. Another 5 minutes went by before freshman Sienna Stuckert scored her first varsity goal off an assist from Kaitlyn Buchino. Lauren Tindera and Ella Graham then added goals, as the 12-4-2 Eagles built a 5-0 lead just 27 minutes into the match. Freshman Ella Briggs added a goal late in the second half, the first varsity goal of her career. Senior Lily Fitch was in goal for Avon, which posted its ninth shutout of the season and fifth in a row. In fact, the Eagles haven’t allowed a goal in the mo nth of October, outscoring their opponents, 23-0, in five matches. Next up for Avon is a district final matchup against Green, which is 7-8-3 and blanked Nordonia in their semifinal, 4-0. The district final will be held at Eastlake North High School Saturday at 2 p.m.
