Eagles come alive on offense to take 7-3 decision over Bay
After struggling on offense in its first two games, Avon’s baseball team finally got the bats going Thursday against Bay, taking a 7-3 decision at Crushers Stadium. The Eagles are now 1-2 and travel to face Toledo St. John’s on Saturday.
Avon banged out 11 hits, with Cameron Ocepek leading the way with three, and Trevor Sykora and Nathan Peters adding two each. In addition, Landon McQuality had a two-run single for the Eagles.
Sam Griffiths, Casey Birth and Ben Strichek all pitched for Avon, holding the Rockets to two earned runs on eight hits while striking out 12.
The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and then exploded for four more in the third. Bay cut the margin to 6-3 with two in the fourth and one in the fifth, and Avon added a single tally in the fifth to reach the final score.
