Joe Magill | Avon High School | Apr 14, 2026

Maria Young pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts as visiting Avon came from behind to defeat Amherst Monday, 5-2, in Southwestern Conference action. It was the first victory over Amherst for the Eagles since 2022.

Young allowed just three hits and two runs while walking three. She was backed by a defense that committed just one error and also turned a double play.

The Eagles trailed, 1-0, in the top of the fourth inning, when Katie Heilman cracked a two-run single to put Avon on top for good. The shortstop was one of five Avon players to post one hit. Jocelin Ochs added a run-scoring double and two stolen bases to the cause, while Jordan Aysh also had a single and two RBI. Young and Averie Reichert also reached safely for the Eagles, who collected eight walks and four stolen bases.
