Eagles continue shutout string, move on to regional semifinal

Joe Magill | Avon High School | Oct 26, 2025

Sydney Thomas scored the lone goal of the day, and the Avon defense was as stout as usual Saturday as the Eagles defeated Green, 1-0, in a district final girls soccer match at Eastlake North High School. Thomas, a sophomore who leads the team with 21 goals, used her speed to get around the Green defense with a run up the right side with about 9 minutes left in the opening half. She then put a shot into the upper right corner of the goal from a severe angle, giving the 13-4-2 Eagles all the offense they would need. It was the 10th shutout of the season for Avon and the sixth in a row. During the six matches, the Eagles have outscored their opponents, 24-0. With the victory, Avon moves on to the regional tournament for the second consecutive year. The Eagles will face Solon at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Medina High School. Solon, 12-5-1, upset North Royalton in their district final, 2-1, the fifth consecutive victory for the Comets.
