Eagles down Avon Lake, 3-0, take another step closer to the SWC title
Avon’s girls soccer team blanked rival Avon Lake Wednesday, 3-0, to move a little closer to winning the championship in the Southwestern Conference. Freshman Carmela Cruzado opened the scoring in the 26th minute to give the Eagles a lead they would never relinquish. Kaitlyn Buchino made it 2-0 near the middle of the second half, and Olivia Sabo-Alexander scored off a free kick with about 10 minutes to play to complete the scoring. Sophomore goalkeeper Haylee Ostrander earned her fifth shutout of the season. Avon, 8-4-2, holds a half-game lead over Olmsted Falls with one conference game remaining. If the Eagles defeat Elyria in a home match on Wednesday, they will win the championship. Avon first will host Gahanna Lincoln on Monday.
