Eagles earn first victory of the season, downing Walsh Jesuit

Audrey Lammers and Janelle Antrum each scored nine points and Avon had nine players score Saturday as the Eagles earned their first victory of the season, taking down visiting Walsh Jesuit, 49-42. Avon, 1-2, jumped to a 20-9 lead after one quarter, but the Warriors battled back to tie the score at 25 at halftime and held a 32-31 advantage entering the final period. The Eagles struggled from the foul line for much of the game, making just 9 of 18 free throws. However, the hosts hit 4 of 6 free throws in the final 8 minutes to help them pull away for the victory. Both Molley Kennedy and Sophia Sharp added six points for Avon, as each hit two 3-pointers for the game, including one each in the decisive final period. Chloe Collins, Emily Mangan, Ava Mitchell and Kaylee Zurawski each added four points for the Eagles, who next play at Southwestern Conference foe Elyria on Wednesday.
