Eagles get defensive in boys basketball victory over Lakewood
With leading scorer Joey Ziegler unavailable for the game, the Avon Eagles turned up the defense Saturday to defeat host Lakewood in non-conference boys basketball action, 46-35. Winners of seven consecutive games, Avon is now 8-2.
Brooks Good led the way for the Eagles with 20 points, with 17 coming in the second half. The junior nearly outscored the Rangers on his own in the second half, as Lakewood scored 19 points after halftime. Sophomore Trevor Sikora came off the bench to add 11 points to the Avon cause, and Gavyn Kittelberger chipped in with six.
The scored was tied at 16 at halftime, but the Eagles scored 18 points in the third period to open a 34-28 lead.
Next on the Avon schedule is a matchup at home Tuesday with archrival Avon Lake.
