Eagles open Coaches Cup play with victory over Westlake
Dominant play in the singles matches led Avon to a 3-2 victory at Westlake Wednesday in the opening round of the Coaches Cup state team tournament. The 5-0 Eagles will face Canton McKinley in their next Coaches Cup match.
As he has done all season, sophomore Aarav Kishorepuria won at first singles, 6-1, 6-4, and this time it clinched the victory for Avon. Teammate Blake Netschke rolled through his match at second singles, 6-1, 6-1, as did Ashton Schwanger at third singles, 6-1, 6-0.
The Eagles couldn’t match that success in the doubles matches, as Caleb Free and Grant Nagy lost at first doubles, 6-7 (9-11), 6-2, and Bidwat Mishra and Jaxen Springer dropped a 3-6, 4-6 decision at second doubles.
Next on the schedule for Avon is a match Thursday at Brunswick.
