Jocelin Ochs reached base five times and knocked in two runs to lead Avon to a 12-7 victory over Avon Lake in Southwestern Conference softball action.

The Eagles, 8-11 overall and 6-7 in SWC play, broke open a close game with eight runs in the fifth inning in a game that was moved to Avon because Avon Lake’s field was unplayable. Avon scored twice in the first inning and never trailed, breaking the game open with eight runs in the fifth inning, turning a 3-2 lead into an insurmountable 11-2 advantage.

Ochs had a single, double and triple as well as two walks to lead the offense. The junior third baseman also stole three bases. Jordyn Smith got the victory on the mound, pitching a complete game while striking out eight. The freshman also had a two-run double in the fifth inning. In addition, Maria Young added two hits, one RBI and one stolen base to the effort.

The Eagles are scheduled to play a rare night game at 7:15 Friday at Westlake.
