Englehart lone Avon champion as Eagles place fifth at Berkshire
Eian Englehart won the 285-pound weight class for the second consecutive year, leading the Avon wrestling team to a fifth-place finish out of 20 teams Saturday in the Battle for the Belt at Berkshire High School.
Englehart, who last week earned the 100th pin of his career, was at it again at Berkshire, winning one match with a bye and his four other matches by pins. In the final, he took down Edrick Williams of Trinity High School in 1 minute, 48 seconds. That actually was Englehart’s longest match of the day, as his other pins came in 17 seconds, 1:08 and 1:24.
The Eagles scored 119½ points to place fifth in the tournament. Trinity, from Pennsylvania, easily won the team title with 321½ points, followed by West Branch with 146, West Holmes with 144, Westlake with 127 and Avon.
Other Eagles who placed were Tony Mrosko (second at 144), Connor Krystowski (second at 215), Kane Sparks (fourth at 150), Jack Schumacker (fourth at 175), Matt Dooris (fifth at 157), Evan Janson (sixth at 138) and Evan Branham (sixth at 190).
Krystowski pinned his way into the final—including needing just 13 seconds in the first round—before being pinned in 2:25 by Gavin Hang of West Branch. Mrosko had two pins and a 17-1 technical fall before being pinned in 4:00 by Devin Junko of Trinity in the final.
Next on the schedule for Avon is a Southwestern Conference dual match Thursday at Amherst.
