Girls basketball will open the postseason with a rematch at Lakewood

Joe Magill | Avon High School | Feb 16, 2026

Avon’s girls basketball team will get the chance to exact a little revenge as the Eagles open the postseason. The tournament draw was held Sunday, and the result is that the Eagles will play at Lakewood on February 25.

Seeded 19th with a record of 8-14, the Eagles will travel to face No. 11 Lakewood, which is 14-7 and finished third in the Cleveland West Conference behind Rocky River and Bay. The Rangers will complete their regular season Monday when they host Brecksville-Broadview Heights.

Avon’s tournament opener will be a rematch of a contest held January 12 at Lakewood. Early in the game the score was tied at five, but Lakewood then went on a 16-0 run to open a 21-5 lead early in the second quarter. Avon managed to battle back to within two, 34-32, midway through the third quarter, but the Rangers then hit a 12-0 run and then held on for a 59-50 victory.

The winner between Avon and Lakewood will face the winner of host Massillon Washington and Akron Firestone. That district final will be held Feb. 28 at Medina, with the winner earning a regional berth at Wadsworth.
