London Carnie scores hat trick as boys soccer opens postseason play
London Carnie scored three goals and assisted on two others as Avon’s boys soccer team opened its postseason run with an 8-0 victory over visiting Warren Harding Wednesday in a Division II district semifinal.
Next up for the second-seeded Eagles is a district final matchup with Wadsworth at 7 p.m. Saturday at Byers Field in Parma. Wadsworth, seeded twelfth, blanked Akron Hoban in their semifinal, 3-0.
Carnie did all of his damage in the first half, as he had a hand in five of Avon’s six tallies before the break. Just 5 minutes into the match, Kyle Hallowell scored off an assist from Carnie, and, about 5 minutes later, the two reversed roles, with Carnie scoring off an assist from Hallowell.
Ryan Wadas then scored off an assist from Carnie, who then singlehandedly took over the match, scoring two unassisted goals just a few minutes apart to make it 5-0. Wadas rounded out the first half scoring on a goal that was assisted by Logan Hider.
Landon Vega scored twice in the second half for Avon, once on an assist from Liam Gerovac and once unassisted to reach the final score. It was the 10th shutout of the season for the 13-1-3 Eagles, as goalkeepers Owen Huron and Jeremiah Zhou combined to keep Harding from scoring.
