Offensive explosion leads Eagles to victory over Midview, 87-57

After a tight first quarter, visiting Avon put 71 points on the board in the final three periods to pull away from Midview Tuesday in a Southwestern Conference matchup, 87-57. The Eagles have won five games in a row and are 6-2 overall, 2-2 in SWC play.

Joey Ziegler led the way for Avon with 20 points, including three 3-pointers. Gavyn Kittelberger added 16 points, with 14 coming in the second half, and Shane Carty came off the bench to pitch in 10 points, his second consecutive game scoring in double figures.

The Eagles held a 16-13 lead after one period but exploded for 27 points in the second quarter to break open the game. They then scored 21 points in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth.

Next up for Avon is a trip to Amherst on Friday. The Comets are 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference, tied atop the standings with Elyria, Olmsted Falls and Berea-Midpark.
