School records fall as bowlers split with Berea-Midpark

In the final tuneup before the sectional tournament, Avon’s bowling teams split with Berea-Midpark Wednesday at Brookgate Lanes, with the boys winning, 2,460-2,406 and the girls falling, 1,845-1,715.
Avon’s boys jumped out to a lead of 100 pins after the first individual game and then held on to up their record to 12-5. The Eagles were led by Grady Stipe with a two-game series of 202-245 (447) and Bennett Ernst at 237-204 (441). They were backed by Cole Corpus at 214-206 (420), Nathen Stewart at 202-176 (378) and Nick Sanchez at 177-150 (327).
Avon’s girls actually bowled quite well, setting school records for their team total with Bakers (1,715) and team total without Bakers (1,448). However, it wasn’t quite enough to keep up with the Titans as Avon’s record dropped to 8-9.
Leading the way for the Eagles was Ava Benninghofen with a series of 185-170 (355). She was followed by Grace Freeman at 147-156 (303), Molly McEwen at 152-128 (280), Kara Patton at 134-124 (258) and Kailynn Forbis at 136-116 (252).
Avon will compete in the Division I sectional tournament Sunday at Yorktown Lanes in Parma Heights.
