Seven-run sixth inning carries baseball team past Midview, 10-4
Avon’s baseball team exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Monday to break open a close game and take a 10-4 decision over visiting Midview in Southwestern Conference action. The Eagles are now 3-8 overall and 1-4 in the SWC.
Three Avon players had two hits apiece, with Jack Goldian leading the way with two hits, two RBI and one run scored. Owen Huron had two hits, including a double, and also scored a run, while Nathan Peters had two hits and knocked in a run. In addition, Trevor Sykora had a hit and two RBI, and Bryce Chura, Sam Griffiths and Kyle Delury each knocked in a run.
Avon took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and added a single run in the fourth, only to see the Middies tie the score with three in the top of the sixth. However, the Eagles responded by scoring seven times in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Matthew Sheldon pitched into the sixth inning for the hosts, allowing three runs on just two hits. Ben Strichek got the win in relief, pitching the final two innings and giving up a run on one hit.
The same two teams will meet again on Tuesday at Midview.
