Smith earns first varsity win as Eagles down Olmsted Falls
Freshman pitcher Jordyn Smith earned her first varsity victory Monday as Avon’s softball team took a 9-3 victory over visiting Olmsted Falls. The Eagles are now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Southwestern Conference action.
Smith allowed just one hit and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out four. She was relieved by Maria Young, who pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight.
Jordan Aysh and Jenna Smith led the Avon offense, each with two hits and an RBI. The score was tied at three in the fourth inning, when Young tripled in a run and then scored on a single by Jenna Smith to make it 5-3. Jocelin Ochs then had the big blow for the Eagles, smacking a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to break the game open.
Avon will take the field again on Wednesday when they travel to play Berea-Midpark at Roehm Athletic Complex.
