Tennis team rolls past Brunswick with 5-0 sweep
A pair of firsts sparked Avon’s undefeated tennis squad to a 5-0 victory over host Brunswick Thursday as the Eagles upped their record to 6-0.
Blake Netschke moved up from his usual second singles spot to win his first match at first singles, taking a 6-3, 6-2 decision. Ashton Schwanger also moved up a slot to win at second singles, 6-0, 6-0. Noah Grakauskas moved up from the Varsity B team to win his first match on the Varsity A level, winning a marathon match at third singles by the scores of 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.
Avon’s doubles teams cruised to victories in their matches, as Caleb Free and Grant Nagy took first doubles by scores of 6-1, 6-1, and Bidwat Mishra and Jaxen Springer earned honors at second doubles, 6-1, 6-0.
The Eagles will host Beachwood on Friday.
