Thomas scores late goal as Eagles edge Strongsville, 2-1
Sydney Thomas scored with less than 7 minutes to play Saturday as Avon’s girls soccer team edged visiting Strongsville in a non-conference matchup, 2-1. Strongsville, which has won five Division I state titles, defeated the Eagles last year, 3-2.
Avon freshman Delaney Moyer opened the scoring in the 16th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Strongsville came up with the equalizer, but then Thomas scored off a corner kick for the winning goal.
The Eagles, 3-2, host Chagrin Falls on Monday.
