Volleyball team downs Midview for third consecutive sweep
Avon’s boys volleyball team won its third sweep in five days on Tuesday, traveling to Midview to take down the Middies by the scores of 25-4, 25-19 and 25-12. The Eagles are now 6-1 on the season.
The key to the victory was the team’s serving, as Avon had 20 aces, which is double the previous season high, which was accomplished three different times. Finn Petzinger topped the Eagles with four aces, while Landon Gomez and Noah Mai each had three. In all, 12 different Avon players had at least one ace. The Eagles also stood out defensively against Midview’s serves with just one serve reception error in 31 attempts.
Petzinger also led Avon in kills with six, followed by Mai and Logan Lam with four each and John Ling with three. Gomez had the most digs for the Eagles with six, and Keegan Tarkany led the way with 10 assists.
Next on the schedule for Avon is another match on the road, Thursday at Bard Early College.
