Bay Girls Lacrosse hands No. 6 Western Reserve Academy its first loss, ends 10-game streak

Bay Girls Lacrosse delivered one of its biggest wins of the season Thursday night, knocking off No. 6-ranked Western Reserve Academy on the road and ending the Pioneers' 10-game winning streak in a back-and-forth girls lacrosse battle in Hudson.

The Rockets leaned on a brilliant attacking night from Layla Meaux and Gracie Fitchpatrick to power the breakthrough result. Meaux finished with five goals and one assist, while Fitchpatrick added four goals and three assists as Bay consistently found answers in a game that swung from one possession to the next. Avery Schriner chipped in a goal and an assist, and Nolie Piktel added an assist as the Rockets' offense kept pressure on one of the area's top teams.

The night also turned into a milestone moment for Bay's senior leaders. Meaux and Fitchpatrick each reached 200 career points during the victory, adding even more significance to a signature team performance. Those individual marks came on the heels of other recent program accomplishments, with goalie Sophia Crimaldi reaching 200 career saves in a previous game and Jill Tennant recording her 100th career goal earlier this season.

Bay's attack set the tone with sharp finishing and timely ball movement, and the Rockets continued to respond whenever Western Reserve Academy made a push. Fitchpatrick's playmaking helped spark key possessions, while Meaux repeatedly converted scoring chances around the cage. Schriner and Piktel helped round out the offensive effort as Bay showed the balance and composure needed to finish off a ranked opponent on its home field.

Defensively, the Rockets battled through every stretch of the game against a dangerous Western Reserve Academy offense. Crimaldi, already celebrating her recent 200-save milestone, anchored Bay's effort in goal and helped the team withstand the hosts' runs. Even without a full statistical breakdown of faceoffs and saves, Bay's ability to win key moments in transition and hold firm late proved decisive in handing Western Reserve Academy its first defeat of the season.

For Bay High School, the win was equal parts statement and celebration, a road result that showcased both the Rockets' firepower and the growth of a group still adding to its list of milestones. Against one of the state's top teams, Bay did more than keep up. The Rockets finished the job and left Hudson with a memorable victory.
