Bay Girls Lacrosse holds off Avon’s second-half push for 11-10 win

Bay built a sizable first-half cushion and then did enough late to finish an 11-10 win over Avon on Tuesday at Bay High School.

The Rockets took control early, carrying a 10-4 lead into halftime, and that six-goal margin proved decisive when Avon mounted its rally after the break. Bay managed just one goal in the second half, but the fast start gave the Rockets enough room to withstand the pressure and close out the one-goal victory on their home field at 29230 Wolf Rd. in Bay Village.

Layla Meaux led Bay’s attack with four goals, while Hadley Clark added three more as the Rockets generated offense from multiple spots. Gracie Fitchpatrick turned in one of the team’s most complete performances with two goals and two assists, helping Bay move the ball effectively during its strong opening half. Avery Schriner also scored, Jill Tennant finished with a goal and an assist, and Sydney Maybaum contributed an assist.

Bay’s scoring balance was especially important in the opening two quarters, when the Rockets established control and forced Avon to chase the game. The first-half surge gave Bay the kind of separation it needed before the matchup tightened in the third and fourth quarters. While specific faceoff numbers were not available, Bay’s early possession and offensive efficiency shaped the flow of the game.

In goal, Sophia Crimaldi recorded seven saves, several of them coming as Avon tried to erase the halftime deficit in the second half. Her work in the cage helped Bay preserve the lead as the visitors chipped away and turned the closing minutes into a one-possession game.

The win showcased both Bay’s explosiveness early and its ability to hold up late under pressure. Behind Meaux’s four-goal day, balanced production across the attack, and Crimaldi’s seven saves, the Rockets came away with a narrow but important 11-10 result over Avon.
