Bay Girls Lacrosse rallies from early deficit to beat Magnificat 17-10
Bay Girls Lacrosse erased an early Magnificat lead and took control in the first quarter Thursday, defeating Magnificat 17-10 in a varsity girls lacrosse matchup. After giving up the first goal, the Rockets responded quickly, grabbed the lead before the opening quarter ended and did enough the rest of the way to keep Magnificat from drawing even again.
Layla Meaux led Bay’s attack with seven goals, powering an offense that produced balanced support around her. Gracie Fitchpatrick added four goals and one assist, Jill Tennant finished with two goals and two assists, and Avery Schriner scored twice. Hadley Clark contributed one goal and one assist, Nolie Piktel added a goal, and Sydney Maybaum recorded an assist as the Rockets repeatedly found scoring chances after their slow start.
The decisive stretch came after Magnificat’s opening push. Bay settled in, answered the early pressure and flipped the game with a first-quarter surge to move in front. From there, the Rockets maintained that edge through the middle quarters, getting enough possession wins and offensive efficiency to keep separation on the scoreboard.
Sophia Crimaldi anchored the defensive effort in goal with six saves. Her work helped Bay protect its lead as Magnificat tried to close the gap, and the Rockets combined that steady play in the cage with timely scoring at the other end to keep momentum on their side.
Bay’s 17-goal output reflected contributions across the lineup, but Meaux’s finishing and the all-around production from Fitchpatrick and Tennant stood out in a game that turned after the opening minutes. The Rockets showed poise in recovering from the 2-0 hole, then controlled the game once they moved in front, closing out a 17-10 road win over Magnificat.
