Anderson’s four-hit day powers Buckeye JV past St. Joseph Academy 24-7

Buckeye Junior Varsity broke the game open early and never let up Monday, rolling past St. Joseph Academy 24-7 behind a 21-hit attack and a four-hit performance from Mackenzie Anderson.

The decisive stretch came right away in the first inning, when the Bucks sent runs across in a hurry to seize control. Ryenne Ford started the scoring burst with a two-run double, Anderson followed with an RBI single, and Jae Mooney added a two-run single. Michaela McNamee later grounded out to bring home another run, Morgan Haas singled in one more, and Kelsey Willis capped the frame with a two-run single as Buckeye built a commanding lead in the top of the first.

Anderson set the tone throughout the afternoon. She finished 4-for-5, all singles, with hits in the first, third and twice in the fifth inning. Willis also collected four hits, while Faith Kapelle went 2-for-2 and drove in a team-high five runs. Mooney, Haas, Addison Riggs and Ford each added multiple hits as Buckeye kept pressure on St. Joseph Academy from one at-bat to the next.

The Bucks added on again in the third. Haas drove in a run on a lineout, Abby Haun singled to the left side to score another, Ford reached on a fielder’s choice that brought one home, and Anderson lined an RBI single down the left-field line. Buckeye’s biggest inning came in the fifth, when it scored 10 runs on six hits. Kapelle delivered a three-run single and later a two-run double in the same inning, Haun drew a bases-loaded walk, Willis singled home two, Ford added an RBI single, and Anderson knocked in another run.

Buckeye also created offense with patience and speed. Maddie Andrukat drew three walks, helping the Bucks pile up 10 walks as a team. On the bases, Buckeye stole 15 bags, with Haas, Andrukat, Anderson and Riggs each swiping multiple bases. That aggressive approach consistently put runners in scoring position and kept pressure on the St. Joseph Academy defense.

Anderson earned the win in the circle, working all five innings. She allowed 11 hits and seven runs, struck out five and did not issue a walk. St. Joseph Academy showed some late pop when Davis hit an inside-the-park home run for two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but by then Buckeye’s offense had already put the game out of reach.
